Matlock or Rowsley Station
Peak Rail welcomes you to journey back to a bygone age and experience the thrill of steam and diesel on our preserved railway, operating between Rowsley South and Matlock Platform 2 for a distance of 4 miles and open to the public throughout the year. Open for half term: 17, 18, 20, 21, 24, 25 February and weekends throughout the year.

Perched on a ridge high above the Vale of Scarsdale, on the site of a medieval fortress, Bolsover Castle is an extraordinary 17th-century aristocratic retreat and runs events for all the family to enjoy at weekends and during school holidays.

The 2018 Illuminations season will run from Saturday 8 September to Sunday 28 October. Fireworks displays will take place on Saturday evenings at 9pm. Matlock Bath Illuminations feature a unique parade of illuminated and decorated boats on the River Derwent every weekend throughout September and October. Each boat carries a decorated model and as darkness falls the boats disappear into the blackness below, leaving the models apparently gliding along just above the water.

Steampunk can best be described as a sub-genre of science fiction or science fantasy which incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.
Steampunks take some of the best parts of the past and make them part of a bright future. They value and encourage creativity and have been asked to collaborate in educational and arts projects across the country.

Haddon Hall houses a magnificent collection of English, Flemish and French tapestries. This morning tour, which lasts around an hour and a half, provides an opportunity to explore these with our guide, to learn the story of Haddon's tapestries, and then to enjoy a chat over coffee and cake in the Restaurant, before exploring the Hall and gardens at your leisure. Tours take place on 8th and 15th October and places are limited. Booking for this event is essential.

Little Monkeys becomes Little Monsters for four nights only......Wednesday 24th October, Thursday 25th October & Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st October. 4.30pm until 7pm. £12 per child for entry, Two course monster buffet, 2 ½ hours play, Wicked disco and fancy dress competition (parents included). The evening Halloween Tours at Haddon Hall focus on the unusual and fascinating Apotropaic Marks, sometimes called Witch Marks, which can be found around the masonry and woodwork of the Hall, and discuss their origins, purpose and the motivation of the unknown individuals who left their mark on the fabric of the building. Step back in time to understand something of the lives of our ancestors. Tours take place at 6pm on 25th, 29th, 30th and 31st October and will begin with a welcoming Halloween Cocktail and sweet treat. Places are limited and booking is essential.
